Pilates History

Pilates is the name of a set of exercise methods named after its originator Joseph Hubertus Pilates. Joseph was born in Dousseldorf, Germany in 1880. He was a sickly child with multiple health problems of rickets, rheumatic fever and asthma. Joseph became determined to master health and develop a strong and healthy physique. he studies many different health techniques.

Joseph attempted, repeatedly, to devise his own exercise techniques. After failing several times he eventually arrived at his aspired exercise program. He developed his techniques further during the First World War and devised exercise aids. This helped patients recovering from injuries to exercise with ease.

Joseph Pilates went to United Stated in the late 1920s and his studio offering fitness techniques soon became popular among dances, gymnasts and actors. Joseph lived to 87 years of age, after him his disciples kept his teaching alive today and his program has been modified to fit in with scientific principles of the age.
